Weekend Roundup: Mets win Two

The Fort Erie Meteors collected a pair of wins this weekend to improve to 19-6-3 in Greater Ontario Hockey League action.

The Mets topped the Thorold Blackhawks 5-2 at home Saturday before defeating the Welland Junior Canadians 4-3 Sunday night in Welland.

“We found two different ways to win this weekend which is always a good sign,” Meteors coach/general manager Nik Passero said. “Sunday we hit a little adversity with penalties and being down early but in the end our depth came through and got the job done.

“An important week of practice ahead of us here to get ready for the Falcons Friday. We know they will be ready on home ice and we have to find a way to cross the finish line.”

The Junior Canadians took a 2-0 lead in the first period before the Meteors rallied to score four of the next five goals.

Josh Smith made 25 saves for the win.
